Living Wage for Key Workers

During Covid-19 a sad and shocking story has been the number of workers vital to our economy losing their jobs or hours - or finding they are going to work and facing a health risk despite being paid wages so low they don't meet the real cost of Living.

We think these fantastic key workers keeping our country running, like carers, supermarket workers, couriers, and hospital cleaners deserve better. They are the foundations of our economy and society - and should be paid a real Living Wage.

Launched by Citizens UK in 2001, the Living Wage campaign has won nearly £1 billion of additional wages, lifting over 200,000 people out of working poverty.

The Living Wage is an hourly rate, calculated according to the cost of living in the UK. The UK Living Wage is currently £9.30 per hour. The London Living Wage is currently £10.75 per hour. Over 6,000 employers accredit with the Living Wage Foundation and pay this hourly rate, in line with the real cost of Living. But our largest supermarkets, care home chains, and courier services are not amongst their number.

We clapped for Key Workers now let's act for them by helping to ensure they get a real Living Wage.
